What type of resume should you use? Functional or Chronological?

When applying for a job, it is imperative to make sure you use the right style of resume that will market your skills to potential employers the best!

The Chronological resume is the most popular. This type of resume emphasis employment history. This resume illustrates job history in reverse chronological order with the most recentjobs placed at the top of the list. It also lists job duties in bullet format under each employer.

The Functional Resume is a skilled based resume. It lists your core competencies and skills under subheadings on the first page. Your skills and expertise and previous relevant experience are presented at the beginning of your resume. The Functional resume can be particularly effective if you’ve held a number of different positions including contract or are looking for a career change. It also is the best resume to use for job hoppers and employment gaps. The functional resume will allow you to highlight your skills rather than list multiple jobs held over short periods of time.
